What is an element?
An element is a substance that is only made up of one type of atom e.g. Carbon or Magnesium.
2 of 5
Name the parts of an atom.
The small central nucleas contains protons and neutrons and around it there are electrons.
3 of 5
What electronic charges do protons, neutron and electrons have? How does this impact on the charge of the whole atom?
Protons are positively charged, neutrons have no charge as they are neutral and electrons have a negative charge. Overall, the atom has no charge because the positively charged proton cancels out the negative charge of the electron.
