describe 3 parts of the earths structure?
iron core, mantle, thin rocky crust
1 of 20
describe two natural disaster due to tectonic plates moving?
earthquake, tsunami
2 of 20
describe the type pf movement at which the tectonic plates move.
move apart- slide past eachother - collide
3 of 20
how long has it taken for continents to move place ?
millions of years
4 of 20
what is subduction?
when oceanic plate collides with a continental plate and because the oceanic plate is much denser it sinks below the continental pulling more oceanic plates after.
5 of 20
what are the two type of tectonic plates ?
oceanic plates and continental

name 4 construction materials and what they're are originally made from
aluminium and iron made from ores. bricks made from clay , glass made from sand
7 of 20
compare the hardness of limestone, marble and granite
limestone is easier to cut than marble and granite. marble is harder than limestone but weaker than granite which is really hard to shape.
8 of 20
explain why limestone, granite and marble have different hardness?
limestone- because its a sedimentary rock. marble- is a metamorphic rock which is made by the action of high pressure and temperature on limestone. granite- because its an igneous rock.
9 of 20
what is the word equation for the decomposition of limestone ?
calcium carbonate - calcium oxide + carbon dioxide
10 of 20
what is the balanced symbol equation for the decomposition of limestone ?
CaCO3 - CaO + CO2 (NUMBERS ARE SMALLER THAN LETTERS)
11 of 20
name two ways in which rocks are taken from the crust
they get cut out from the ground in blocks,
12 of 20
describe how cement is made from limestone
cement is made by heating powdered limestone with clay
13 of 20
describe how cement is made from limestone
concrete is made by mixing cement with sand, water and aggregate (crushed rock).
14 of 20
what is reinforced concrete ?
A steel support is made by joining steel bars or cables together and this is then usually surrounded by a mould. Concrete is poured into the mould, where it fills the gaps in the steel support and sets hard. Reinforced concrete is an example of a com
15 of 20
give 2 advantages of reinforced concrete
concrete is hard and strong when squashed, but weak when stretched steel is flexible and strong when stretched.
