1 of 11
What is a compound?
A compound is a substance produced when two or more elements combine in a chemical reaction. It is made up of more than one type of atom.
2 of 11
What charge does a neutron have and where in the atom can they be found?
Neutrons are neutral (they don't give off a charge) and they are found in the nucleus.
3 of 11
What charge does an electron have and where in the atom can they be found?
Electrons are negatively charged and they circle the nucleus on the shells.
4 of 11
What charge does a proton have and where in the atom can they be found?
Protons are positively charged and they are found in the nucleus.
5 of 11
What is the atomic number of an atom?
The amount of protons.
6 of 11
What is the mass number of an atom?
The number of protons and neutrons.
7 of 11
How many electrons does 1st, 2nd and 3rd shell of an atom hold?
The 1st holds 2 electrons, the 2nd holds 8 electrons and the 3rd holds 8 electrons.
8 of 11
How are elements arranged in the same group in the periodic table?
All element in the same group of the periodic table have the same number of electrons in their outermost shell.
9 of 11
What do the elements in each period (row) have in common?
They all have the same amount of shells.
10 of 11
What else is a shell known as?
An energy level
