What is Chemistry
Chemistry is the study of the composition, behaviour and properties of matter, and of the elements of the Earth and its atmosphere
1 of 11
What does 'soluble' mean?
The substance can disslove in a liquid. The liquid is called a solvent. Generally, solids are more soluble when the temperature increases. The solubility of a gas in particular solvent depends a pressure and temperature

What is a solution?
A solution is a mixture created when a solute has dissolved in a solvent
3 of 11
What is a solute?
A solute is substance that dissolves in a liquid

What is a solvent?
A solvent is a liquid in which a solute can dissolve in
5 of 11
What does soluble mean?
A term to describe a substance that can dissolve
6 of 11
What does insoluble mean?
A term to describe a substance that cannot dissolve
7 of 11
What does the solubility of gas depend on?
The solubility of gas, in a particular sovlent, depends on the pressure and temperature. As pressure increases, more gas molecules dissolve into the solvent. Generally, gases tends to be less soluble as the temperature of the solvent increases.
8 of 11
With most solid solutes, what happens to their solubility as the tmeperature increases?
Most solids become more soluble as the tmeperature increases however some solids are an exception
9 of 11
With most gases, what happens to their solubility as pressure increases?
Gases are more soluble as the pressure increases
10 of 11
What unit is used for solubility
g/100 cm cubed - Solubility is usally measured by grams of solute that can be disolved in 100 cm cubed of solvent
