What is a charged atom called?
an ion which gains / loses electrons

How do you work out how many compounds?
You count the capital letters this tells you how many protons it has

What is filtration?
he process in which solid particles in a liquid or gaseous fluid are removed by the use of a filter medium that permits the fluid to pass through but retains the solid particles.

Where is crystallisation?
a process whereby solid crystals are formed from another phase, typically a liquid solution or melt.

What is Fractional Distillation?
used when separating mixtures of liquids whose boiling points are similar

what is chromatography?
the general name given to the methods by which two or more compounds in a mixture are physically separated by distributing between two phases

What was Dalton's atomic theory?
John Dalton
British scientist born into a quaker family who created an atomic model and theory.
Dalton's Atomic Theory:
1) All matter is made of atoms
2) All atoms cannot be created, destroyed, or divided
3) All atoms of a given element are identical in m

What was john Thompson atomic theory?
J.J. Thomson discovered the electron. Atoms are neutral overall, so in Thomson’s ‘plum pudding model’:

atoms are spheres of positive charge
electrons are dotted around inside
