For a microorganism to be considered as a pathogen what must it do?
1. Gain entry to the host 2. Colonse the tissues of the host 3. Resist the defences of the host 4. Cause damage to the host tissue

Bacteria, viruses and fungi

How do microorganisms get into the body?
Through the gas exchange system or through the digestive system.

What are the body's natural defences to keep pathogens from entering the body?
A mucous that covers exchange surfaces (dificult to penetrate). Produces enzymes that break down pathogens. Produces stomach acid which kills microorganisms.

How do pathogens cause disease?
Damaging host tissues. Or by producing toxins.

What is risk?
A measure of the probabilty that damage to health will occur as a result of a given hazard.

What are some lifestyle factocs that could contribute to the risk of developing cancer?
Smoking. Diet. Obesity. Physical activity. Sunlight.
