what is osmosis
osmosis is the diffusion fo molcules froma high water poteinal to a low water potential across a partial permeable memberanr
1 of 8
facts about water potential
water pteinatil for pure water is 0 as the molecules are free to move about and it us usually the negative, the smaller the number the higher the water potential
2 of 8
what does solute potentail mean
solute poetentail is concetnatraion of dissolved subsnatnces in vacuole
3 of 8
what is pressure potential
the hydrostaic pressure of the water pushing outwards, and the opposing force of the cell wall pushing in
4 of 8
what is plasmolysis
when the concentration of the solution outside the cell is lower than conc inside cell this is hypertionic, thewater moves out of the cell by osmosis and cell becomes flacid, vacuole shrinks and cell membrane moves away from cell wall
5 of 8
what is incipient plasmolyis
where 50% of the memberane has moved away from the wall
6 of 8
what is turgid
when the concof solution outised the cell is higher than the solution isided the cell the solution is hypotonic and the water enetrs the cell aby osmosis. the water potenial os zero and they plant beomes turgi and cant take in any more water,
7 of 8
what happens to animal cells if placed under hypotinc solution
the cell will swell and burst
