The police (80%), the Magistrates Court and the Crown Court in murder cases

What are the reasons why bail will not be given?
If they have absconded previously, are likely to abscond, need to be imprisoned for his own protection/a child, will hinder with evidence, is likely to commit more crimes, they refuse to give name or address, if he wont appear in court

What will be considered when giving bail?
The antecedents of the person, the person's character, their previous criminal convictions, the nature of their offence, if they need to be imprisoned, if he is a drug user

What conditions can be imposed on bail?
Tagging, curfew, restriction requirements, reporting to the station, fines, surety, keeping away from a certain address/person

What are some facts on bail, evaluation?
People abscond, people commit on bail, decisions made too quickly, poor conditions on remand

Remand evaluation?
Poor conditions, suicide rate is high for young men, prison overcrowding, more difficult to prepare for trial

Each year 6,000 people are placed on remand, 180 offences are committed by people on bail everyday, and 50 murders were people on bail in 2007
