Processes of life

?
what is the function of the nucleus, cytoplasm and cell membrane?
nucleus: contains DNA for making proteins, used in respiration
1 of 16
what is the function of the cytoplasm?
where proteins such as enzymes are made. Anaerobic respiration happens here
2 of 16
what is the function of the cell membrane?
holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out
3 of 16
what is the function of mitochondria?
where aerobic respiration happens
4 of 16
name three things that plant cells have and animal cells dont
vacuole, chloroplasts and cell wall
5 of 16
what type of cells have a cell wall but not a nucleus?
bacterial cell
6 of 16
what is an enzyme
a biological catalyst that speeds up a reaction
7 of 16
what is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
glucose + oxygen ->carbon dioxide + water (+energy released)
8 of 16
what is the word equation for anaerobic respiration?
glucose -> lactic acid (+energy released) 2h
9 of 16
what is the word and symbol equation for photosynthesis?
carbon dioxide + water -> glucose and oxygen , 6CO2+ 6H2 -> C6H12O6 + 6O2
10 of 16
three factors that can limit the rate of photosynthesis?
water, light, temperature or CO2
11 of 16
what is diffusion?
diffusion is the passive overall movement of particles from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration
12 of 16
what is active transport?
Active transport is the movement of chemicals across a cell membrane from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration using energy released by respiration
13 of 16
what is osmosis?
Osmosis is the movement of water from a dilute to a concentrated solution through a partially permeable membrane
14 of 16
what is an identification key?
an identification key is a series of questions that you can use to figure out what a plant is. It narrows it down your options of what the plant could be
15 of 16
what is a quadrat?
To make data collection quicker and easier. a square frame devided in to 100/100 squares, used to estimate the percentage cover of plant species on the ground by counting how much of the quadrat is covered by the species.
