What is the Attribution Theory?
It tries to analyse the cognitive processes involved in making judgements about why people behave as they do.

He explained that people try to attribute causes of behaviour.

What are the two sources of behaviour?
1. The person; internal/dispositional attributes such as personality 2. The situation; external/situational attritubes such as social norms

What are the three axes of attribute?
consistency, distinctiveness, and consensus

How can he three axes be used?
When behaviour is consistent, but lacks distinctiveness and consensus internal attributes are used.

Looking at others behaviour

Fundamental attribution error (FAE)

Describe the FAE?
The FAE leads to emphasis on dispositional attributes rather than on situational attributes, leading to erros of judgement.

Cutting into traffic and assuming that they are an idiot and not because of the fact they might be driving a pregnant women to hospital
