What is the science behind AF?
There are multiple waves from the atria competing and they overwhelm the the AV node

This results in irregular conduction down Bundle of His, reducing cardiac output

What are the 3P's of AF?
Paroxysmal AF
Persistent AF
Permanent AF
3 of 11
What is paroxysmal AF?
it comes and goes on its own, lasts up to 7 days
4 of 11
What is persistent AF?
lasts longer than 7 days, requires ongoing treatment

lasts up to a year

What is permanent AF?

What are the symptoms of AF?
palpitations
irregular heartbeat
chest discomfort/pain
SOB
lightheadedness
fatigue
8 of 11
What are the 5 treatment options for AF?
1. anticoagulation to prevent blood clots
2. medication to control heart rate and heart rhythm
3. cardioversion
4. catheter ablation
5. pacemaker
9 of 11
Can AF be asymptomatic?
