What are the 3 types of Numerical Data?
Ratio, Interval, Ordinal
1 of 6
What is Ratio Data?
Measured on a continuous scale.
The zero is absolute and the value cannot be below it.
E.g. time, height, heart rate
2 of 6
What is Interval Data?
Measured against a well-established physical scale.
Equal gaps or intervals exist between each point on the scale.
E.g. temperature
3 of 6
What is Ordinal data?
Results from human estimation or the rating of events or behaviour.
Cannot be assumed to have equal gaps between each point on the scale.
E.g. attraction ratings
4 of 6
Disadvantages of the Mean
Easily distorted by extreme values.
Not necessarily equal to any original value.
5 of 6
Disadvantages of Standard Deviation
Assumes a Normal Distribution Pattern.
Only used with data where an IV is plotted against the frequency of it.
