What was the basis of Aristotle's Ontological Argument?
God must exist because we wouldn't know about him otherwise. We can't think up something that powerful and great.

What is an analytic proposition?
One which is true by definition "bald men have no hair". There is nothing we need to do to test this proposition. Anselm said that God was an Analytic Statement.

What is a synthetic proposition?
A statement that you have to experience. For example you couldn't know what a shop sold if you hadn't gone inside.

What did Gaunilo say about Anselm's Ontological argument?
Although Gaunilo was a Christian he didn't agree with Anselm's argument and used the analogy if the island to show this.

What is the analogy if the island?
Gaunilo said this. He argued that he can picture a perfect island in his mind but it doesn't mean it exists in real life. This could also be said to be the same as God.

What did Decartes say about the Ontological argument?
He said that existence is perfection and so is God so he must have created the universe.

What did Decartes say about predicates of a triangle?
That if a triange didn't have three sides it wouldn't be a triangle. This is an analytic statement. Existence is a predicate of God.

What is a predicate?
A quality or property of something.

What was Kant's objection against Decartes?
He said that existence is not a predicate. To say that something exists doesn't make it exist.It is synthetic not analytic.
