What can cause
hyperthermia or hypothermia?
Hyperthermia is raised temperature caused by heat stroke, pain or seizure.
Hypothermia is reduced temperature caused by
shock, circulatory collapse or just prior to giving birth.

Where is the digital pulse found on an animals
body?
At the back of the animals paw

What is the capillary refill & how is it done?
Capillary refill is done by pressing on the
gums of the animal until it goes white, and it should go back to its original colour quickly.

Should animals be weighed monthly, weekly
or yearly?
Monthly.

What should be done in a daily health check?
Check:
Posture and movement - hunched, gait, lame
Urine and faeces- amount consistency
food and water - intake/vomiting/diarrhoea
General appearance-rough coat, injury, discharge.

What does TPR mean?
Temperature, pulse and respiration checks.

What is a Bradycardia and Tachycardia?
Bradycardia is slow heart rates caused by sleep or hypothermia.
Tachycardia is high heart rates caused by stress,
pain, early shock, exercise, fear or excitement.

How can you tell if an animal is unwell by visible
checks?
No limping, consuming food like usual, regular behaviour eg. playful.

In what order should you do a health check in?
Start from the eyes and work down the body to not spread any bacteria.

How should an ideal animals body look like?
1: Cannot feel the ribs at all
2: Can feel the ribs slightly when checking the body.
3: Can feel the ribs and can see the ribcage structure from the animal.
2: You should be able to the feel the ribs if went to check the animal but you shouldn't be able to see them.

If your animal has Salmonella what should you do?
You should treat it as soon as you can, you can treat it with fluids, electrolytes and antibiotics.
You should also try and prevent it from happening again by Isolating the infected animal and have good hygiene around.

Where is Ringworm and other worms such as roundworm, tapeworm found?
They are endoparasites, so they are found on the inside of animals bodies.
