V was impaled by D's vehicle with spikes. D was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving. COA quashed the convictions as although someone died, there was no act of dangerous driving so there was no offence.

D fell asleep while smoking. Woke up to see his mattress on fire, went back to sleep and didn't attempt to put it out or get help. Was convicted of arson as he failed to take reasonable steps to deal with the fire.

Bland was fed artificially through tubes and had been for 3 years. Court ruled the doctors could stop artificially feeding him even though it would mean he'd die as a result as it was held to be in his best interests.
