Define Reliability
This refers to how consistent the findings from an investigation or measuring device are. -Should receive the same result.
1 of 6
Explain 1 way reliability can be assessed/tested?
Test - retest method - This involves administering the same test/questionnaire to the same person/people on different occasions. If the test is reliable then the results obtained should be the same or very similar.
2 of 6
What is the difficulty with using the test - retest method?
There must be sufficient time between test and retest to ensure that the participants cannot recall their previous answers, but not so long that their attitudes, opinions or abilities have changed.
3 of 6
Explain another way reliability can be assessed/tested?
Inter-observer reliability - one researchers interpretation of evens may differ from someone else’s. So observers should work in teams of at least 2. Observers would watch the same event by record data independently. If they have similar observations/reco
4 of 6
What should be conducted during this inter-observer reliability method and why?
A pilot study - A small scale trial (pilot study) should be run in order to check that the observers are applying behavioural categories in the same way.
5 of 6
How could you improve reliability for questionnaires?
Use the test-retest method. Minimise the use of complex and open questions which could be misinterpreted. Use closed/fixed choice questions instead.
