Why did the '45 days' almost cause civil war?

The 45 days was the period of time from Mussolini's dismissal on 25th June to the announcement of Italy's surrender on 8th September. Although the Kind and badoglio wanted a swift exit from the war, they had only made sketchy negotiations with the allies. They wanted to get out of the war without losing their own personal power and without having to fight against the Germans.
The North-south divde separated Italy more.
