THE CLAIMANT COUNT
- unemployed- those registered as able,available and willing to work at the going wage rate in any suitable job
- unemployment is a flow concept
- UK had been using claimant count to measure this sinc 1971
- this is the annual average rate of unemployed that seek job seekers allowance

- based on internationl labour ordganisation definition of unemployment
- covers those who have looked for work in the past 4 weeks and are able to start work in the next 2 weeks
