- The Treaty of Versailles was set up by the "Big Three" (Woodrow Wilson-USA, Georges Clemenceau-France, David Lloyd George-Britain) to ensure peace by punishing Germany and its Allies for starting World War 1 (or the Great War as it was called back then).
- Georges Clemenceau, the French prime minister, wanted Germany to be crushed and be blamed for the war because France was the main battlefield of WWI that France lost a lot of land, soldiers and equipment.
- David Lloyd George, the British prime minister, wanted Germany to pay like France but not to damage Germany so much so that Germany could still trade.
