Cold War- Political hostility between countries that stops short of actual armed conflict.
Communism-a system of government in which that state plans ad controls the economy and a single party governs the country. Communism aims to ensure that all goods are equally shared by people.
House Un-American Activities Committee (HAUC)- a committee of the US house of Representative, created to investigate people and organisations suspected of being disloyal to the USA.
Civil Rights- legal rights, such as freedom of speech and right to a fair trial. Most African Americans lacked these in the 1950s.
