MAJOR BATTLES:

BATTLE OF PUSAN PERIMETER:

  • was a large-scale battle between the UN and North Korea
  • lasted from August 4th to 18th September 1950
  • one of the first major engagements of the Korean War
  • had an army of 140,000 troops UN
  • were pushed to the brink of defeat and rallied to make one final stand against the North Korean army with 98,000

BATTLE OF INCHON:

  • was a sea invasion resulting in decisive victory and strategic reversal in favour of the UN
  • the operation involved 75,000 troops and 261 naval vessels
  • led to the recapture of the South Korea capital Seoul two weeks later
  • the code for this was Operation Chromite
