The nervous system protects organisms from harm by responding to changes in the environment.

Neurones

Neurones are nerve cells that carry electrical impulses (signals) between receptors, CNS, and effectors.

They are the messengers, and they go to all parts of the body.

Part of the Periphery Nervous System (PNS)

 

Central Nervous System

The CNS coordinates the response- decides what to do about the stimulus + tells something to do it.

The CNS sends information to the effector along a motor neurone.
The effector then responds eg. a muscle may contract or a glad may secrete a hormone.
