Karma
Karma literally means action

  • Karma is the activity that humans carry out in the cycle of existence
  • Since everything in life is interconnected (pratityasamutpada), actions have consequences
  • The idea is simply of cause and effect

Although karma literally means action, the thought process and intentions behind an action ultimately cause rebirth

  • The Buddha said, 'Intention... is that I call kamma
