The Battle of Agincourt, 1415

Henry V invaded France in August 1415 with an army of between 6,000 and 8,000 men.

The first action came at the port of Harfleur. Henry besieged (surrounded) the town which had 400 French soldiers defending it. After five weeks, the town surrendered. Those who agreed to work with Henry could stay; everyone else was forced to leave.

Henry moved on to Calais, but was forced into battle in a narrow stretch of poloughed land between two woods. Henry's army had just marched 250 miles in bad weather and so his army wasnot in good shape and many were ill.

The land between the two armies was heavy with lay which was difficult for cavalry to fight…
