As organisms get larger their surface area to volume ratio decreases

As bacteria is very small they can rely on diffusion accross their surface area to exchange everythhing they need

Because Humans are so big they have a small surface area to volume ratio so they can't rely on diffusion for all of their needs

Instead humans have specialised exchange surfaces like they lungs and small intestines to increase their surface area to volume ratio
