Static Electricity.

A build up of static electricity is caused by friction.

Electrons have a negative charge.

 When two insulating materials rub against each other the electrons will completely comeoff one making it positively charged due to a lack of electrons

 This leaves the other material with a negative charge due to the excess of electrons.
