What type of materials can become electrically charge?
Insulating materials.
1 of 7
How can you generate static electricity?
By causing rubbing / friction between two objects.
2 of 7
Give three example of a material that can be electrically charged.
Balloon, synthetic clothing, dusting brushes.
3 of 7
How can a charged object be discharged?
By earthing it.
4 of 7
What is earthing?
When a object discharges, electrons are transferred from the charged object to the earth.
5 of 7
Give two example where static electricity dangerous.
Flour mills and petrochemical factories.
6 of 7
Why is it dangerous there?
Flour mills and petrochemical factories have atmospheres that can contain extremely flammable gases (or vapors), or high concentrations of oxygen. A discharge of static electricity (i.e. a spark) can lead to an explosion.
