Melody
We hear the full pitch range of instruments at the start. The melody is rather anguar. The carrier of the melody is called teh haupstimme and the secondary melody is the nebenstimme. The instruments playing these can change at any moment and quite irregulary. Klangfarbenmelodie (tone colour melody) used.
Rhythm and metre
The opeining consists of mostly short triplet and sextuplet bursts. Uses demisemiquavers and quavers. Very virtuosic rhythms. Mainly 3/4 but switches to 2/4 and 4/4 and ends on 3/4.
