Schizophrenia is a mental illness that can affect how someone thinks, speaks and feels to such a degree that they may lose focus on reality.

Positive Symptoms

These are symptoms that add to the experience of the patient.

  • Hallucinations - False perceptions/inaccuracies that affect the senses. In the acute phase of schizophrenia, patients are likely to insist that they are hearing voices which no one else can hear.
  • Delusions - False ideas believed by a schizophrenic but not by other people. They are usually based on some kind of sensory experience that the person misinterprets.
