HIV infects particular type of helper T cell
1) once entered - RNA converted to DNA using enzyme reverse transcriptase
- DNA has base sequence for production of new viruses
- DNA incorperate into chromosomes of host cell, being replicated if cell divides
- may remain in chromosomes of cells for long period of time - no effects on persons health
however - immune system produce antibodies against virus, can be detected in blood - only virus particles in blood attacked because antibody cann't enter infected cells
