Method:
- Freud carried out a case study of a child called Hans, who had a fear of horses.
- His father observed him, making notes of his dreams and things he said. These notes were passed onto Freud for analysis.
Results:
- Hans was afraid of horses because he thought they would bite him or fall on him.
- During the study Freud found that Hans had developed an interest in his 'widdler' (penis).
- His mother told him not to play with it or she would cut it off.
- He told his father about a dream where he married his mother and his father became his grandfather.
