Processes driving change in water stores over time and space
Water changes state.
Evaporation - where liquid becomes gas - things needed are: heat energy, air that isn't saturated. Transpiration is also linked to evaporation. It's a biological process where water is lost through the pores called stomata. Evapotranspiration. Factors affecting these processes include:
- Temperature - higher temperature leads to more evaporation and evapotranspiration
- Wind - faster wind = faster rate of evaporation
- Humidity - the lower the humidity the more water vapour can be absorbed
- Climatic factors such as hours of sunshine - more sunshine, more evapotranspiration
Condensation - Where gas becomes a liquid. It happens when air cools and is less able to hold water vapour (Dew point). Water molecules condensse onto nuclei or onto surfaces, which form water droplets or frost. Precipitation occurs where the air can no longer hold the condensed water.
