Problems of oil production in Ukraine

The war underscored the urgency of achieving energy independence for Ukraine, an issue that has been debated for 15 years. However, there is no comprehensive government policy. Energy companies, from Naftogaz to small players, need to intensify efforts to expand production, generation and introduce new technologies.

The oil and gas sector faces challenges from non-market regulation in Ukraine and Russian influence, which are hampering efforts to reduce dependency. In 2021, Ukraine remained significantly dependent on gas and oil imports.
