Please be warned he was moving very quickly so they might not be very coherent.

Also: this was when i was y12 so i hadnt really starated DCT yet

oh well

Idk what topic the first one was bc we missed it.

THE EUTHYPHRO DYLEMA

When we say god is good  what do we mean?

Good is whatever god commands j bc he commands it- Socrates- he’s a tyrant.

God is good according to some external standards like Platos forms- but then god is not supreme

Aquinas Good is not moral goodness but to fulfil somethings nature

God is timeless- sees whole of time in one now, god is timelessly present to him in one immediate now.

Problem: how can we possibly be free (have free will?)?

In Islam- everything happens by willl of allah- both good and bad- sp how can humans possibly be free and how can he possibly be good?

The causal arrow- the issue is wether gods knowledge causes human actions.

Problem with omniscience- if god known eveuyuthing he must know the future and if he can tell a future then it must be predestined (unless he knows all the possibilities instead, but the problem is wether he is then still truly omniscient.)

Omnipotence:

The wholy simple god vs the everlasting god- supporters of both regard god as omnipotent

Aquinas and wholly simple god supporters- god can do absolutely anything that is POSSIBLE

the everlasting god- can do anything, even impossible

Augustine and Pelagius:

The fransciscan approach

Aquinas vs bonaventure

The Franciscan tradition

Feminist input:

The aim of feminist theology is to try and determine what’s going on and who benefits- to ask “Cui bono”- to whos advantage of this

The gnostic gospels- feminists say ‘not included to marginalise women’

The gospel of Mary- Mary Madeline- portrayals of Mary in paintings and like pre media media

The sinful woman- Mary, eve etc

Hildegard of bingens wholy trinity picture

Modern feminist approaches :

1: accept the bible and traditional Christianity, evangelical feminists, just change the language which favours male images- remain in the same church but change it. Rosemary Redford further & other examples i cba to type down

Catholic- cannot even duiscuss issue of womens ordination- bishop in Queensland’s was removed for discussing.

Two sides

| Want to retain the essential truth of Christianity

| middle ground

| Some belive bible is so affected by make domination that its almost tainted and cannot be followed/ is not pure to follow

Sarah coakley- Male image is so string one should abandon Christianity together

Mary daly- Sophia (wisdom) is there but Christianity is so male dominated she has found it difficult to stay within the church.

Which model of god is more faithful tot he teachings of Jesus’- the everlasting or the wholly simple

Wholly simple- aquinas
