• Individual MPs can often criticise the government, Maria Eagle campaigning constantly for gay rights in parliament
• However due to party discipline often MPs are merely used to support the government, MP for Horsham, Jeremey Quinn nearly always voting with the government 
• Lords can sometimes be very vocal and active in parliament, Lord Adonis, Labour constantly being active against gov
• However often Lords are extremely inactive, Lord Sewell coke scandal 
• Parliament has the power to block controversial government legislation, Brexit bill in 2019 blocked by Parliament with overwhelming majority
