During refraction, a small amount of the wave is reflected back into the glass

If the angle of incidence is above the critical angle, the light entirely reflects back causing Total Internal Reflection

Requirements

• TIR only occurs if the angle of incidence is above the critical angle
• TIR only occurs if light is travelling in the denser medium
