Nazi education

• Children were essential for providing the ‘master race’

• They should be indoctrinated with nazi ideas they should be conscripted to build the movement and to provide future soldiers and mothers

Teachers 

• 1933 - teachers required to join National Socialist Teachers League (NSLB)

• April 1933 - ‘undesirable’ teachers were purged by the law

• 1937 - impossible to get a job if not in union 

  • 97% of teachers had joined

• Had to attend courses to absorb ideas they were expected to teach

• Weren’t shown much respect so became less popular

  • 1938 - 2500 new teachers qualified while there was 8000 vacancies 

Curriculum 

• Most important role of schools was to teach loyalty to Hilter and Germany, physical fitness and racial purity

• PE - filled about 15% of curriculum 

  • Boys physically able to bear arms

  • Girls fit to bear children
