The multi store model is made up of three main parts formulated by Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968). The first part is the sensory store, this holds experiences very briefly (about a second). To bring memory from the sensory store to short term memory you have to pay attention to it. The capacity is all sensory experience, the duration is a quarter to half a second and it's encoded sense specific. After you pay attention to it memory then goes to short term memory. Where you have to rehearse it to keep it there. The duration is 18-30 seconds (although some studies have suggested it can be up to 96s), the capacity is 5-9 items (7+/-2)
