Breathing Rate
Breathing rate is usually defined as the number of inhalations completed in one minute. The rate can be determined by simple observation or by reading data from a spirometer.

Peak Flow Meter
A peak flow meter is used to measure the peak expiratory rate. This is the maximum flow of air the can be forced out of the lungs. Measured in litres of air per minute (dm3min-1).
How to use a peak flow meter
1. Stand up straight.
2. Make sure the indicator is at the bottom of the meter.
3. Take a deep breath filling your lungs completely.
4. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth; lightly bite with your teeth, and close your lips.
