  • Metallic bond - regular arrangement of positive metal ions surrounded by a sea of free outershell electrons

  • Force of attraction between positive metal ion & sea of free outershell electrons is the metallic bond.
  • Sea of free outershell electrons act as a glue, holding the ions together.

Strength of metallic bond is controlled by:

  • charge of ion
