The Geese Study (Lorenz 1952)

• Procedure: Randomly divided a clutch of goose eggs. Half were hatched with the mother goose in their natural environment (control) and half were hatched in an incubator where the first moving object they saw was Lorenz. Lorenz then observed and compared their behaviour
• Findings: The incubator group followed Lorenz everywhere; the control group followed the mother. When the two groups were mixed, the control group continued to follow the mother and the incubator group continued…
