Carbonates react with acids to produce salt, water and CO2. For example, C a C O 3 and 2 H C l react to give C a C l 2, H 2 O and C O 2. Carbonates decompose to give an oxide and C O 2, for example, C a C O 3 decomposes to C a O and C O 2, Calcium carbonate to calcium oxide and carbon dioxide. Cement - heating limestone with clay in a kiln produces cement. Concrete - Aggregate, water, cement and sand are mixed together to make concrete.
