e.g Exposure to sunlight increases the risk of skin cancer.

The Correlation between two variables is a link or relationship.

e.g The more someone smokes,the higher the risk of lung cancer. 

Causal Mechanism is an explanation of how one factor influences another.

e.g Anyone can get lung cancer but smoking increases the risk because carcinogens are taken into the lungs.
