Kyoto Protocol

AS Geography

The following are a brief overview of the Kyoto Protocol. They are made to be in bullet point form, but just take it as every new line is a different point. I'm going to try and colour code it to make it easier to understand.

The Kyoto Protocol is an agreement, created by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

In 1992 (the year my best bud Ollie was born - WOOOP!!) in Rio, Brazil, an agreement was made by all countries that something had to be done about climate change.

The UNFCCC was started that year in these meetings.

In 1997 (In Kyoto obviously), all countries across the globe agreed to cut Green house Gases (GHGs).

The agreement came into force in 2005 when Russia signed it.

The main idea was - to reduce GHG emissions between 2008 and 2012 to be 5.2% lower than 1990 levels.

Targets are specific, eg:

  • The EU have to cut
