Ionic compounds are formed when a positive ion reacts with a negative ion.
Structure= giant lattice--> ions have a regular, repeating arrangement (ionic lattice).
Bonds= strong ionic-- need lots of energy to break
An ion is an atom with a +/- charge, formed when an atom loses or gains electrons to get a full outer shell.
metal atoms lose electrons to form positively charged ions (cations)-->more protons than electrons
