Zoos and the Law
Zoos need to comply with a wide range of laws relating to:
- Zoo licensing
- Health and safety
- Environmental protection
- Contract law
- Employment law
Zoos must also comply with international law, e.g. the Convention on international Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). This regulates the movement of rare species across international boundaries. Uses a system of permits.
