We use a sign test when we're looking at a repeated measures design, when the data is nominal, and when we're looking at a difference.
Significance is a statistical term that shows that the research findings are sufficiently strong for us to accept the research hypothesis under test. The level of significance for psychology is P is less than or equal to 0.05. Therefore there is a 1/20 likelihood of the hypothesis being down to chance.
