Early on Uprisings
Viscount Lovell and the Staffords, 1486;
- The first minor uprising was led by Viscount Lovell and Humphrey Stafford.
- Lovell tried to raise a rebellion in Richard III's heartland of support in the North Riding of Yorkshire.
- Stafford tried to raise forces against Henry, drawing upon another area of Yorkist support in the Midlands.
- Lovell managed to escape from the King's forces but Stafford was captured and executed.
- There was little enthusiasm for a Yorkist uprising in their traditional heartlands and it was easily suppressed.
Lambert Simnel and the rebellion of the Earl of Lincoln, 1487;
- Yorkists realised that a change in strategy was needed if they were to be successful in their attempts to get rid of Henry VII.
- Lambert Simnel was passed off as the Earl of Warwick who had been imprisoned by Henry and was even crowned as King Edward in Ireland in May 1487.
