The Boscastle Flood on August 16th 2004 was seen a very exceptional event - so there was less need to act.  Also no one was actually killed.

However, the THE FLOOD DEFENCE SCHEME, which was completed in 2008, cost £46 million. Various factors had to be considered when the scheme was being designed.  Not only was the event seen as very exceptional but any scheme would be very expensive.  Also, Boscastle is a picturesque tourist destination, so the village couldn't be dramatically altered…
