Feminist view of the Family

○ Liberal feminism :Liberal feminism is one of the earliest forms of feminism, stating that women's secondary status in society is based on unequal opportunities and segregation from men. They have the following thoughts:

•optimistic view of the family

•focus on increased equality

•many couples today see relationship on equal terms

•man has found his feminine side and takes a more active role in the household and childcare.

•studies, have suggested that men are doing more domestic labour and parents are socialising their sons and daughters equally.

○  Radical feminism: is a perspective within feminism that calls for a radical reordering of society in which male supremacy is eliminated in all social and economic contexts, while recognizing that women's experiences are also affected by other social divisions such as in race, class, and sexual orientation. They have the following thoughts:

•negative view of the family

•men benefit more than women and do very little housework and childcare.

•see marriage as a type of prison and violence is used if men don't get their way

•support diversity

•the only way for the oppression of women to be overturned is by abolishing the family as it is the root of patriarchal system. This can only be done through separatism. Political feminist such as Germaine Greer argue for the creation of " matrifocal" households.
